Volunteering for Trinity shop runs in Stephonie’s family

With three generations of her family having worked in Trinity’s Clapham High Street shop, it really is a family affair for Stephonie. Her Mum Sylvia, started the ball rolling as a volunteer over 10 years ago. Sylvia then encouraged her daughter to join her. Stephonie was studying at the time and took to it like a duck to water, shadowing the manager and acting as a relief. When the manager’s job became vacant, she applied and got it.

Stephonie’s own daughter Elisha also lends a hand volunteering and the next generation, Stephonie’s granddaughter Cameron, has been known to pop in to the shop too, although only as a visitor as she is still very young.

Sylvia started volunteering with Trinity as she felt it was “a great cause and worth doing”. She passed this motivation on to the rest of the family and having had relatives and friends cared for by the hospice, they’ve chosen to follow her example.

Stephonie has now built up her own team of volunteers old and young from a  wide variety of backgrounds and nationalities. “It’s great to have such a mixed team, many are long-standing volunteers and the younger ones often come back even after they’ve gone to university and introduce their friends and family.”
