Your care teams

Your nursing team

Trinity’s inpatient nurses and healthcare assistants will provide for all your nursing needs as well as hands-on, practical care.

Our nursing team will always be here for you. They are your first point of contact for any questions that you or your visitors have. They can offer emotional support as well as answer questions about your symptoms and care. They will regularly review your care plan with you and support you in making decisions about your current or future care. If you need support from other members of the inpatient team, our inpatient nurses will make the arrangements.

Our inpatient nursing teams are here 24 hours a day and they work shifts on a rota basis. You may not always see the same nurse but all members of the team will know your care plan and what support you and your family and friends want.

Medical support and advice

Our inpatient nursing team works closely with the medical team to ensure that any troubling medical symptoms are dealt with quickly.

As one of the leading hospices in the country, Trinity is a centre for specialist medical training. The medical team includes consultants and specialist registrars. (Registrars are qualified doctors who work under the supervision of the consultants.)

All members of our medical team will be able to explain the effect of medication on your symptoms as well as the benefits of any changes in medication. If you or any of your visitors would like to see a doctor this can be easily arranged by the inpatient nursing team.

Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and independent living

Trinity’s physiotherapy and occupational therapy staff can help you maintain your independence and manage symptoms.

Our physiotherapists can support you in exercising – at whatever level you want – on your own or in a group. This can help strengthen your muscles as well as improve your balance and co-ordination, which in turn helps you maintain your mobility and cope with things like getting in and out of chairs and using the stairs. Physiotherapy may also help you relax, cope with breathlessness, gain a sense of control and increase your energy. Our physiotherapy staff can also offer acupuncture which can help with pain.

Fatigue is a common symptom of illness and can affect you physically, psychologically and emotionally. Our occupational therapy staff can help you make simple changes to your routine and, if you are going home, advise about assistance or equipment that might be helpful.

Emotional, financial and practical support from our social workers

Living with a serious illness can impact of many areas of your life as well as how you feel about yourself and your relationships with your family and friends. Some people find that it is at the point when they most need to talk to someone about how they are feeling that it becomes the most difficult thing to do.

For some people it’s a great relief to be able to talk to someone, outside of their immediate family and friends, who has time, patience and professional skills. Our nurses are always here to support people in talking about how they are feeling and our social workers have particular expertise in helping with emotional or family issues. They can talk to people on an individual basis or work with families, friends and carers if that is what is wanted.

Illness can impact on your financial situation and our social workers offer help with advice on debt, benefits, allowances and housing. The Citizens Advice Bureau also holds a surgery here every two weeks which you or your family or friends can use.

Pharmacy support

Trinity’s pharmacy team offers home visits, self medication advice and a medication counselling service.
