Trinity shops welcome royal visit

Posted on: 2 Feb 2012

Two Trinity Hospice charity shops received a very special visit on Wednesday 1 February when HRH the Duchess of Cornwall called in to meet volunteers and staff at Kensington Church Street.

Derek Wyatt, Chairman of Trinity Hospice, greeted the Duchess of Cornwall at Trinity’s bookshop.   The Duchess is Royal Patron to Trinity and as well as visiting the two shops, she also kindly donated a number of books - including one co-authored by HRH the Prince of Wales.

“We were delighted to welcome our patron to two of our very popular shops,” said Derek. “It’s certainly the first official visit to our shops by a member of our Royal Family.

“Trinity is very fortunate to have a patron who takes a genuine interest in our crucial work, providing skilled, compassionate end of life care for people who are at an advanced stage of illness in our central and southwest London community. Our shop managers and volunteers are very proud of their shops and they realise how vital our retail income is to support the special, free care we provide.”

Trinity relies on its 21 shops to fund a third of its overall running costs. A third of its funding comes from the NHS while the rest is from fundraising in the community and legacies.

The Duchess chatted with Trinity Hospice volunteers and she also met Paul Claxton, who manages Trinity’s book and music shop at 31 Kensington Church Street, and Debbie Woodall, who runs the Trinity clothes shop, next door at number 33.
