Helping Trinity in schools

Our team of social workers and counsellors work closely with schools and families with young children to help children cope with the new and frightening experience of bereavement. Local schools recognise the value of Trinity’s work in the community and are a huge source of support for Trinity Hospice.

Supporting a charity from an early age can provide children with a huge sense of pride and help them to really feel part of the community.  There are all sorts of ways schools can get involved with helping Trinity – we have fundraising ideas for all age groups, from nursery groups to college pupils.

We always enjoy the opportunity to come and talk to pupils about the work Trinity does. We are happy to attend assemblies and classes, and we can also assist pupils with school projects like the YPI initiative by arranging for them to visit the hospice to see our inpatient centre, day services centre and gardens and meet our staff.

Trinity's Easter Chick Campaign

Trinity’s annual Easter Chick Campaign is our most talked about community project – each year our dedicated team of Trinity supporters knit thousands of chicks, which we then stuff with chocolate eggs and sell in the local community. Schools, pubs, doctors’ surgeries and churches all support this campaign to raise vital funds for the hospice. Since the Campaign began in 1999, it has raised an incredible £54,024 for Trinity.

If you would like to take part in this campaign by selling our chicks at your school or place of work, or if you would like to help by knitting some chicks for us, please contact Catherine by calling 020 7787 1012 or email csykes@trinityhospice.org.uk.

Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

YPI PhotoThe Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is a scheme that encourages pupils in secondary education across the country to engage with charities in their local community.

Groups of pupils research local charities and select a charity to represent. They then compete with their classmates to win a grant of £3,000 for their chosen charity. The pupils compete against children in their year group by researching and giving presentations on the charity. Trinity was awarded a £3,000 YPI grant thanks to La Retraite’s engaging and informative presentation about Trinity Hospice.

If your school is interested in learning more about the YPI scheme then please contact Catherine on 020 7787 1012 or email csykes@trinityhospice.org.uk.

Take part in a Toddle next summer

Local schools can do their bit to support Trinity by taking part in a sponsored toddle, where teachers and toddlers are sponsored by friends and family to do a short walk and raise money for Trinity.  Trinity held its first sponsored toddle in 2011, which started at Trinity Hospice and finished on Clapham Common. This year participants raised an impressive £1,420.

If you are interested in taking part in a toddle for Trinity next summer, please contact Catherine on 020 7787 1012 or email csykes@trinityhospice.org.uk.
