Facts about Trinity
These are some facts and figures about Trinity - some of them may surprise you.
- Trinity’s specialist end of life care services are available much earlier than many people realise. We’re here to help people to live their lives to the full for whatever time is left, that might be a year or more, one month or one week.
- We care for people with many types of illness. Many of our patients will have cancer but others will have long term conditions such as heart failure, lung or neurological conditions, including motor neurone disease or multiple sclerosis.
- Our services include nursing and medical care, counselling and practical support, welfare advice, occupational and physiotherapy, complementary therapies, creative activities and bereavement care.
- At any moment in time, Trinity is caring for 450 patients. Each year we care for around 2,000 people.
- Most of our patients are cared for in their own homes which is where most people prefer to be. Our ratio of inpatient to home care is 28/400.
- More than 40% of people are able to return home after spending time with us as an inpatient.
- A third of all the people in our care are under 65 and an increasing number are aged between 20 and 40.
- All our patient and family services are free of charge.
- To improve end of life care for more people than we can reach with direct services we give support to and share our skills with other care providers including care homes, hospitals, GPs and district nurses. Last year Trinity’s clinical team delivered 6,500 hours of education.
- Trinity is supported by 540 volunteers who give around 45,000 hours of their time each year.
- It costs £9 million each year to maintain Trinity’s services but just 36% of our funding comes from the NHS. We depend on the support of our local community in the form of donations, fundraising and legacies to continue our work.
