Open Garden Day 2010

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Trinity’s Open Garden Day took place on a sunny Sunday afternoon in our award-winning gardens.

It was the first time that Trinity had opened its gardens for over four years, during the building of the inpatient centre, so we really wanted to invite the whole community to come and see the newly landscaped gardens and learn about the work we do here. We were overwhelmed by the community’s response with nearly 1,000 guests coming to enjoy the gardens and join in the fun.

There was an Alice in Wonderland theme throughout the garden, including children’s entertainers dressed as characters from the book, from Alice herself to The Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit even made an appearance! There was also a giant tea pot shaped bouncy castle and a string quartet who played tunes from the original movie score.
The main highlight for the children had to be the face painter who had queues of children awaiting her amazing artistic talents.

Not only did we manage to raise a greater awareness of Trinity and the work we do within our local community and we also managed to raise £4,315 in the process.

Congratulations to Sharon Morrish from Middlesex who won the Crabtree and Evelyn Hamper in the  prize draw.

A big thank you to our sponsors Fidelity International who sponsored the event and to all the Volunteers and staff who gave up their free time to help out. Fidelity International’s Corporate Citizenship Executive, Toula Saltouros, commented:

“Fidelity International is delighted to have sponsored the Trinity Hospice Open Garden Day, particularly as the event was such a great success. As a local company, we are committed to supporting the communities close to our offices, and we hope that our contribution towards this event will help raise much needed funds.”

Marathon Runners 2010 web v

The London Marathon took place on a fine Sunday morning in April, 30,000 runners took to the streets of London to run and raise funds for their chosen charities.

Trinity had 16 supporters proudly running to raise funds for the Hospice. The first of Trinity’s runners to make it across the finish line was our very own gardener Michael Halman who ran it in an amazing 2 hours and 29 minutes and  was ranked 56th out of out 30,000 participants.

One of our Trustees Richard Raine also ran aid of Trinity completing the 26.2 miles in just under five hours, he says of the event:

“It was a simply amazing experience, from the incredible oranisation to the wonderful support from the crowds. The whole route was packed with spectators and supporters with no exceptions. Pubs were open all day, there were bands playing and street parties going on, and people handing out biscuits and sweets etc…The last few miles were really hard, but the great atmosphere was a real boost.”

A huge thank you to all our marathon runners who not only completed the gruelling 26.2 miles but have raised a fantastic £32,000 for Trinity Hospice.

Candlemas Evensong

Monday, July 5th, 2010

St Luke’s Church on Thurleigh Road held a Candlemas Evensong in support of Trinity Hospice on January 31st. The wonderful service was lead by the Quorum Chamber Choir and included dramatised bible readings and a reflective presentation – a modern day drama linking the readings and Trinity Hospice together- by members of the National Youth Theatre.

The service was followed by a wine and canapé reception and a small auction with some fabulous prizes with entertainment provided by the Broomwood School Chamber Choir .

The evening managed to raise a staggering £4,259 through a collection on the evening, the aforementioned auction, the sale of tickets to the wine and canapé reception and the sale of candles.

From everyone here at the hospice and the many families and friends we support every year we would like to thank St Luke’s Church, Quorum, The National Youth Theatre, Broomwood School, our two wonderful sponsors James Pendleton Estate Agents and Brasserie James and everyone behind the scenes who made this event possible.
